It’s about the students AND us.
Dear fellow educators,
You are my ❤️ heart and I am thinking of you every day. I recently went to the NSEA [Nebraska State Education Association] University (mostly to see Gerry Brooks) and I was surprised😮and inspired🎉 to share what I learned.
I went to sessions ranging from the 📘Commissioner of the Nebraska Board of Education📘to learning from the🤓Department of Education about the NeMTSS process🤓 and of course the hilarious 🤗Gerry Brooks🤗.
I was surprised at each of my sessions. Why? I learned that the Commissioner wanted teachers to be “agents of change”🔔. Did you know there is also support from the Department of Ed for helping students through NeMTSS (Nebraska Multi-Tiered System of Support) and it is different from RtI💡? School climate and culture started with ME 😬(I really dropped the ball on this 😔) and I hadn’t stopped to think about it that way before.
What does this have to do with you? I felt alone 😶 when I was teaching in the classroom, NOT because I did not have a support system with me but because I did not feel like I could make a difference in the way I wanted. I realize now that that is not true, I was just going about it the wrong way. (Hint: it was because I was working on it on my own.)
Educators need to support each other and have each other’s backs. That is what this blog is for. I have a series of posts that I would like to send that give tidbits and tips from my learning at the conference (and just from life experience from this 16 year veteran teacher👩🏫) and how it can be used to give you power over what is happening with your students.
I promise I am not trying to sell you anything only asking you to think about students and what you have power 💪 over to change to make school better for them.
Also feel free to forward this on to anyone who you think can benefit from some inspiration to work as a team to do what is best for students. I am just writing to say many things that I wish I would have had the courage and tenacity to say before. 🍎💪
